Flooded Basement in Queens, NY
Challenge
The owner of this Queens, NY basement had a severe water problem. The sheetrock had to be torn off of the walls due to the water in his finished basement. The homeowner had only lived in the home for several months, but had already experienced a few basement leaks. Mr B. worried about his children's health due to potential mold growth and mold sysmptoms. He was also concerned about the value of his home and wanted to protect his asset and his family. Upon inspection System Design Specialist, Maurice, noticed that the walls were covered in effervesence. Effervesence presents itself as a white powder on the walls and is a sign that water is coming into the basement through the walls. The problem was severe and was only getting worse.
Solution
Quality 1st Basement Systems installed a full perimeter WaterGuard system to waterproof the basement. The team also installed a TripleSafe battery backup sump pump to work with the WaterGuard and keep the basement dry. WaterGuard captures all of the water from under the basement floor and off of the basement walls. It is also specially designed to capture water right at the foundation joint where most basement leaks occur. WaterGuard also works best to waterproof this basement because it is designed to never clog, which is something most other basement waterproofing systems lack!
To address the issues with the damaged sheet rock, Quality 1st Basement Systems installed EverLast wall panels on the bottom half of the basement walls. The sheetrock needed to be replaced because it was damaged, wet, and moldy. EverLast basement wall panels are the better option because they are made of completely inorganic materials which means they will not get ruined by water and will never grow mold. EverLast wall panels are insulated with foam insulation and do not require wood studs, again removing organic materials that are susceptible to water damage from this part of the basement. This homeowner now has the security that his home is safe and his children are not in danger when in the basement!
